General description

The IMS Giotto biopsy kit allows:

  • A 360° approach to the lesion.
  • Identification of the lesion with the same image quality and imaging technique that allowed its detection (2D, Tomo, and/or CEM).
  • Instant verification of sampling success thanks to the SMART CHECKER accessory.

Smart Finder

GIOTTO CLASS Biopsy System is optimized for efficiency thanks to the fully motorized SMART FINDER needle positioner, which is compatible with all VABB and Core systems on the market.
The biopsy systems are equipped with advanced simulation software (Raffaello interface) and guarantee high targeting accuracy.
The coordinates of the lesions can be calculated using standard stereotactic, CEM or tomo acquisitions, ensuring excellent visibility.

Excellent image quality

Using the same detector and algorithms as routine mammography, physicians have greater confidence in the quality of the images and the localization of lesions.
A wide 15×11 cm field of view, combined with a large 7×7 cm biopsy window, allows them to visualize more tissue and locate even the finest microcalcifications.

Multiple approaches

The tilting needle holder, combined with the ability to position the patient in multiple approaches, offers a 360° access to the breast. Vertical, lateral, and angled approaches are available without any additional components, allowing even the most challenging lesions to be reached.

Tomo-guided biopsies

The simulation Raffaello software displays the expected needle path overlaid on the anatomy of the DBT reconstructed images, so that procedure planning can include an assessment of the optimal angle for needle entry.

Smart Checker

SMART CHECKER is a simple yet highly effective tool for X-raying biopsy tissue cores in seconds, using the detector’s exposed active area and without decompression or additional patient exposure. It is the perfect solution for quickly checking tissue samples at the end of the procedure, saving compression time and investment in additional scanners.
Its unique design allows it to be used in any mammography position, both vertically and horizontally.
A specific case designed for compatibility with the VABB Mammotome Revolve system is also available.

  • Specific guides and supports for compatibility with all VABB/CNB systems;
  • Full DICOM compliance.

CEM-guided biopsies

Contrast-Enhanced Mammography (CEM) is highly effective at identifying lesions otherwise invisible to conventional imaging techniques. Hence the need to introduce a CEM-guided biopsy technique. Recent studies have demonstrated that CEM-guided biopsies are faster, less costly and more tolerable for patients than RM-guided biopsies (Nori Cucchiari et al., 2024). IMS’s Giotto Class mammography systems offer the unique ability to perform CEM-guided biopsies both in upright and in prone positions. To learn more, please continue browsing the dedicated sections.
